Watusi and Workshop, Holiday Sale - Orange Eye

I was in Fredericksburg recently, a beautiful part of our Texas Hill Country. Just outside of town I saw these amazing cattle! Well, amazing for me. Their horn base is huge. Huge. Big. They are Watusi. I wish I would have been able to get a closer shot of them, but this must do. They were in an area with these 3 donkeys, and I thought the way they were all lined up was too funny.

Iris Emerging, Lake Jean's Moon, Deer and Turkey!

The moon was so awesome last night! It was huge just above the horizon, early in the evening. Our Game Camera at Lake Jean caught this awesome shot! I don't think I've ever seen this before. We don't have too many deer feeding at night, so this is really a special shot. Oh, sigh, and about that date and time - it's kind of like the old VCR's, we have no idea how to get that date right or to remove it!

Deer moon

Turkeys!! I saw over 30 turkeys in the field in front of our house 2 days ago. I'd hoped that they had all stopped at the Lake to munch out before they crossed the field, but, I'm happy to have the shot of these guys!

My beautiful picture

Here is the shot I got from the patio, they are pretty far for my camera to do much, but you can see most of the large group.

Iris Emerging, Abstract Study is now available for sale!

It is 8 inches tall by 10 inches wide and features the light of the iris petals emerging from a dark background. I love doing pieces that are part abstract and part impressionistic. Fun, very fun! My sister had these gorgeous iris in her yard, and it was perfect for this piece. The outer petals of the iris were white, and the inner ones were the palest of purples.

Golden Pink and Holiday Sale!

There is a special time of day that I love. It's the late, late afternoon, just as the sun is going down. The field in front of our house turns the most gorgeous color. I can only describe it as golden-pink. If only a photograph could capture the real beauty. But, as with many things, neither a photo or a painting will do, you just have to be there! I wait for it most days, waiting for the light to be splashed, thrown, hurled - it appears. Then, sunset.

I have a Holiday Sale in my Etsy store!! If you're getting an early start on your gift list, you may find just the right piece for someone special!

More affordable art for your walls, featuring Glenda Bailey and Susan Elkin

Glenda Bailey, of Two Cool Texans has beautiful work. I simply love her work, and have featured her on my own blog. She and her daughter work together in this venture. Both have been widely published, and their art is in homes across the United States, Canada, and the UK. Their art has been published in Somerset Studio, Altered Arts magazine, Somerset Gallery issues, Expressions, Haute Handbags, ScrapnStamp, Stampers Sampler, Somerset Handcrafted and Sew Somerset. These impressive artist have a variety of pieces available for your walls at very reasonable prices!

Mixed media and felting on canvas-Winter Songs $38.50

Glenda 1

I love this piece, but, by now you've figured out that I love all of Glenda's work! The quiet colors in this piece are so engaging. Glenda started this piece by needle felting, beading, adding brass leaves and fibers, then finally silk leaves onto a piece of wool felt. Then she stitched on the image of the two birds sitting on a pine branch. Next, she layered the felted piece onto a canvas board covered with diagonally quilted bronze fabric, then onto green handmade paper. Lastly, the piece was layered onto a gallery wrapped canvas. The sides and the canvas are painted also. For a finally touch, she added a bamboo ring tied with coordinating fibers. The canvas measures 8 x 8 inches plus a few inches more at the bottom with the fibers hanging down. Perfect - and so very reasonably priced!

My Photo

Glenda Bailey - her own words:
I am a mixed media artist and teacher in the Dallas area. I have been teaching and pursuing mixed media arts since I became an empty nester about 12 years ago. Alisha tells me it is more like 15 years, I have no concept of time. The hobby has turned into a profession of sorts and occupies most of my time. I love it! My daughter and I own TwoCoolTexans.net and collaborate on a lot of art projects. We also do artwork and demos for Clearsnap. I feel so blessed to have a "best friend" and a daughter who shares my passion for all things art.

This is another piece of Glenda's that is just great.

Bird and eggs, mixed media assemblage, canvas, shadow box, collage, available for only $35.95!

Glenda 2

This is one in Glenda's shadow boxes series. She uses a 6 x 8 stretched canvas, turns it over to the back and creates a shadow box inside the opening for the collage. The back is then painted and it is ready to hang or place on a little stand for display. She said she loves doing bird themes! For this one, Glenda used handmade paper, a bird reprint, a twig, cheesecloth, and a vintage reprint of the bird.

Susan Elkin has this piece for you:

Orange Long Legs and BS Art Studio

Here is another heron watercolor! This one is layered with oranges, reds, yellows, and even magenta. I love the flow of watercolor, and enjoy working with it. It creates many surprises as you paint, and often these surprises dictate the outcome of the piece.

Long legs - Orange 1
This is "Orange Long Legs." Orange is an original watercolor painting sized to fit a standard 8 inch by 10 inch mat and frame.

I have a stack of bird paintings now! I love how painting in a series changes my eye.

Detail:

Long legs - Orange 123

Orange Long Legs is available in my Etsy store here, for $35.00.

A Peek into my Studio: These are 2 crosses I like. The first one was purchased on the High Road from Taos to Sante Fe. What a gorgeous drive. We stopped at all of the wonderful old churches along the way. This was made by David Lopez in Trampas. I also have one of his carved bunnies! The second cross was purchased from the Farmers Market and Art Market in Baton Rouge on my spring trip to visit my family. I love the labyrinth in the cross and the colors. These 2 pieces hang on the wall in front of my easel.

Stop by and visit http://bsartstudios.com/ to the see work of Shelby and Beth. They have wonderful Encaustic paintings. Their sense of color and design is captivating. You'll see more at their Etsy shop here, with a huge variety of art and prices.
