Aspen at Buckles Lake, and Kae Elliot

Buckles Lake is beautiful!

The smaller of these two pieces was painted on location at Buckles Lake, Colorado this summer. You'll find this gorgeous place South of Pagosa Springs. The sky is intensely blue at this altitude of 9505 feet.

Around the lake are breathtaking aspens surrounded with yellow wildflowers. I painted with gouache on location, and the larger studio piece to the left is an oil. The oil needs some drying time, and then it will be posted for sale. The small one will be posted as a study for sale in my Etsy shop.

We enjoy Pagosa Springs, and stay there to take day trips to the surrounding areas. If you stay at Pagosa Springs, I can tell you that Pagosa Springs Inn & Suites is a very nice place to stay. Chester and Margaret are wonderful innkeepers. The rooms are very nice, and his suites are very, very nice! Chester is wonderfully accomodating, his staff is delightful, and we love his delightful sense of humor. We've stayed with Chester several times and have been so pleased each time.

I'm in an online group with some wonderful artists. Kae Elliot is one of them. She has been so nice to put links to my Esty shop on her blog during our common promotions. Kae is so kind in featuring Esty sellers. So, I wanted to say hello to her, and let you know about Kae's blog, and her two Esty shops, Kae's Etsy crafts shop, andKae's Etsy supply shop.

Roosters and Turkeys!

Young Rooster, original oil painting:

Detail:

Detail:

Young Rooster was painted from one of my photos. The young roosters are so funny. They seem to not know that they aren't a "big guy" just yet! You know I love painting our animals, and this was a fun piece, too. This painting is 10 inches tall by 8 inches wide, and it is painted on Gallery Wrapped canvas. Gallery Wrap means that the canvas extends around the side of the painting, enabling me to continue the painting on it's edge. The rooster's tail extends around the side. If you do not want to frame them, they are ready to hang as is. Here is a side shot of the piece:

This photo below is from our game camera at Lake Jean. You'll notice that the turkeys on the far left and the far right are smaller than the 2 in the middle. We watched these grow from babies! This is the first picture of them that has been captured. (I just love our game cameras!) They came to the feeder in the front of the house when the babies were very small, about 5 inches tall. We've watched them grow all summer.

Here is a peek into my studio, this is on my watercolor table. The basket holding miscellaneous tools is from the Tarahumara Indians in Mexico. I simply love pottery, and the 2 mugs were collected on my travels.

Affordable Art

I wrote the following article for a blog that I contribute to. Once a month I feature one or more artists on the Design Style Guide blog. I thought I'd share that article with you here:

Are you looking for affordable art? I feel that art work in your home and work area is essential for capturing the mood, the preferred 'feel' of your room. Art enhances any area and you can afford it!

I have some wonderful finds for you that are very affordable! Some are original works of art and some are prints, but all are affordable. For this article, I've chosen a blue theme. I can see these wonderful pieces in many situations, adding to the ambiance of your special area.

Kate of HeronKate is the artist behind this acrylic painting. This is Spirals and Fish, an original work.

Kate uses one of my favorite color schemes, orange and blue. This is a vortex of fire and water, represented by the colors and the spiral and fish images. This 12 inch x 12 inch original piece is $120.00.

Blue Beach Days is an 8 inch by 8 inch Fine Art Photographic print. This print is only $30.00! I love the compositions of GreenIslandStudios. Her choices for placement always show a good eye for design.

Greenislandstudios gives you prints on premium quality Fine Art Paper, which has a matte finish with a rough texture. Jo will work with you for your individual needs. She will also offer you this picture as a box framed deep edged canvas, mounted (and / or framed) print in a variety of sizes. Her vintage inspired art is truly affordable! You can choose from many pieces at her shop, and she can offer the size, etc. that you need. You will find that most artist are happy to accommodate your needs.

This is from Kauaiartist. Strolling Maha'ulepu is an original watercolor painting. Strolling combines watercolor with pen & ink, a great combination of mediums. It measures 8inches by x 10 inches and is double matted to 11"x14" in an ivory and gold mat.

Marionette takes full advantage of the intensity of watercolor to capture those amazing Kauai colors. This piece is priced at $95.00. She uses only the finest quality art supplies in her watercolor paintings - Arches watercolor paper and Winsor and Newton paints. Those are my favorites for watercolor too! Strolling is priced at $95.00.

Mystery is an original painting by Jordanka.

Jordanka's
expressive trees are gorgeous. This blue piece, Dancing Blue Moon Willow, is an original acrylic painting. This piece is priced at $26.00, and measures 7" x 7 1/4". Jordanka works with her collectors for their particular color needs. She will also accommodate any size or design for your decor.

If you're looking for a larger piece, this one by Elizabeth Graf is 22 inches by 28 inches.

Glasswing Butterfly is an original oil painting priced at only $235.00. The many butterflies on Elizabeth's property inspire her, and she will be creating a new series of paintings such as these.

These are just a few example of affordable art. I'll be bringing more to you soon!

Cone flower, sage, mushroom, and rain flower update

Echinacea is sometimes called "Cone Flower." This is a little watercolor, one of my Tiny Bits of Fine Art.

Detail:

This piece has layers of magentas, violets, greens and ochers. "Cone Flower" is 5 1/4 inches tall by 3 5/8 inches wide, sized to fit into a 7x5 mat and frame. Click here for Cone Flower in my Esty Shop.

Here is another peek into my studio, the fridge door. The card is cut from one I received from Madeline, my sister in law, and the "Exhale" magnet is from my sister Lisa.
After a few inches of rain, these mushrooms show up. They are in this little area just outside of my studio door. I had about 6 of them last week. I love all of the dew drops in this shot!

The sagebrush is outstanding. It only gets this spectacular after several inches of rain. We had 3 inches. The hills are covered in purple, pastures are covered in purple, it is beautiful!

The "After the Rain" flower is still somewhat a mystery.

Vanaly Palmer told me they had them in Bandera, a beautiful area of the Texas Hill Country. She has no idea what they are called either. Mary Sam said her mother called them "Crow Poison." Twila Harville said a San Antonio weather man called them "Rain Lilies," but also made up names. So, I think you can call them whatever you like!

They never even want to go outside.

Echinacea and After the Rain Flowers

Detail:

Detail:

I love Echinachea! The way the petals turn downward is so different from most of the daisy shaped flowers. It is sparse in the Texas Hill Country, but I often see it in my travels. I have so many photos of these flowers, many from the Taos, New Mexico area.

This watercolor piece is 7 inches tall by 5 inches wide, sized to fit a standard 8x10 mat and frame.
See it here in my Etsy store, priced at $35.00.

After the Rain Flowers are here!
These are such neat little flowers. They start coming up just after a rain and last about 3 days. What a show they make in those 3 days! One flower by itself would be pretty easy to overlook, but there is always a clump of them together. The white flower, about 7-9 inches tall, is on a stem the width of a pencil lead. There are a few spikes of leaves that are in the shape of a slender leaf of grass. That is. Not much to it, and I have no idea what they are. I can't find it in either of my flower books.

I love this, how it pushes through the soil.

This is about 2 days old.

Thank you for visiting!
